light tunnel

Today the motor came in and they got the slide out to work!!!  We are so happy.  They also had to put the molding back in place, as it had worked its way out during this time and Rog could not put it back because the slide out did not work.  So Rog would zip tie it in place as it worked its way out.  They got that in and had to fix a few other small things so we will be leaving here in the morning.

We are really glad to be on the road again.  We do appreciate staying here in the parking lot, but it is a parking lot and we need to move on.

hoodie joke

Saint Peter is sitting at the Pearly Gates when two guys wearing dark hoodies, and sagging pants, arrive.
St. Peter looked out through the Gates and said, "Wait here. I’ll be right back."

St. Peter goes over to God's chambers and tells him who is waiting for entrance.
 God says to Peter:

"How many times do I have to tell you?
You can't be judgmental here. This is heaven.
All are loved. All are brothers. Go back and let them in!"

St. Peter comes back and says their gone.
God asks, "The guys in the hoodies.
St. Peter says no the Pearly Gates.

Today we stayed close to the old rig waiting for the part to come in.  We did head out to shop and the bank.  To avoid the toll road we wind up in Michigan for a few miles.  That gives you an idea of how close we are to the state line.

Our mattress is 7 years old and has been showing lumps and bumps here and there.  We have been thinking about getting a new one.  Well that's harder than you think because we have to get  a very special mattress.  Our bed folds up when you put the slide out in.  So the mattress is "folded" at 18 inches.  Since we have been without the full bed a couple of times because of slide out problems and the latest being now, we have been thinking of getting a queen sized bed.  So since this mattress is going we decided to cut the 18 inches off, it is now a queen, and see how that would work out.  So far we are happy.  So we will be getting a queen mattress in Denver.

We have another full day of setting around waiting for parts.  It has been so hot and humid here too.  It is suppose to be cooler tomorrow.  We are getting some rain and thunder and they say that would happen as the cold front makes it way here.

Love the jokes.

horse sweater

Well this morning bright and early they came for the rig.  They looked it over and re-welded the bracket that holds the motor for one end of the slide out that fell off in Newfoundland.  They got it done in record time and we also asked them to check on some other things while they we at it.  So it took some time to get it all done.

Our man came out with the motor in hand and said there is a problem.  There always is you know.  The thingys on the housing which is attached to the newly welded bracket were broken and there was no way to attach it.  So out went the calls to find, first a housing to replace the old.  This did not happen because our rig is just too old.  I have been trying to convince Rog of this too.  LOL  So they had to order one.  This will not get done and delivered until Friday because they are having to create one.  So we decided to take them up on their offer of staying here free instead of heading down the road to a campground.

We spent the morning here in their lounge with the girls.  When they got done with what they could we set up the rig for the 3 days we are staying here.  We had to clean out a couple of compartments so they could get at the places to fix everything.  So now that was all in the rig which is quite crowded already.  So I could not stand that so I went through the stuff and repacked and decided again to get rid of some stuff and then put it back in the compartments for the time being.  I know I will need to take the stuff back out, but I need the space.

This pic is for Laura.  I know they are miniature horses and all, but still this is a big sweater.  LOL  Way too much time on their hands to knit this.

And to stay with the horse theme.

Ohio to Indiana

We got up early to some cool weather and headed toward Indiana knowing it was going to be much warmer.  We were right.  We are parked in front of the outfit that is going to fix my slide out tomorrow!!!! say that again please, fix my slide out!!

It is a very desolate parking area, but it is free and has 30 amps., great wifi, and great tv reception.  Got my hair cut and ate out at Micky D's yea!!!  so all is well here.

We did stop in route at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio.  We had the big beast so did not get to do much here.  It is mostly hiking and biking stuff anyway.  They did have a waterfall to gaze upon, but really we just saw Niagara Falls so they really had to go some to impress us so soon after that sight.  LOL

We headed down the road and made it into Indiana.  I have pix of farm land and barns and the Amish.  It must have been end of the work day for them because they were out in force on the roadways.  Their buggies have Indiana license plates.  That way they are paying for the use of the highways too.  Speaking of the highways.  We took the toll road, our interstate highways by the way, and it was so rough!!  They should be ashamed of themselves for taking  money and giving us terrible roads to drive on.  So we got off along with a whole bunch of truckers and came the rest of the way here on regular roads and they were so much better.

This is about the National Park.

They had a neat display of what this area would have looked like back in the day.

They also had a display on the building of the particular boats that traveled this canal.

I did not know where the boards came from in a log when they milled them.  Interesting.

I love barns, old and new, but mostly old they have such "character".

Interesting shape?

Buggies everywhere.

this is our new home place.  I am hoping for just tonight!!!

genie joke

A guy is walking along a Florida beach when he comes across a lamp partially buried in the sand.
He picks up the lamp and gives it a rub. A genie appears and tells him he has been granted one wish.
The guy thinks for a moment and says, "I want to live forever."
"Sorry," said the genie, "I'm not allowed to grant eternal life."
"OK, then, I want to die after the Democrats balance the budget and eliminate the debt.
"You crafty little bastard," said the genie...

Today we washed this big monster.  Rog washed and I dried the lower sections.  Then we both tackled the car.  While Rog was washing the outside I was washing the inside.  Completely cleaned the bathroom and kitchen.  I did not clean a thing the whole time we were on the Atlantic provinces trip and a couple of weeks before.  Needless to say I had my job cut out for me.  It is looking and I might add smelling really great now.  I will try and keep up from now on.  But I was having a wonderful time and there are more important things to do than clean.

The weather was perfect for washing rigs because it was overcast and cool, but things did warm up a bit in the afternoon.  All in all a great day.

We are planning another road trip for tomorrow.  Heading to Elkhart, Indiana to get the slide out fixed.  I can hardly wait.  We are planning a stop at the National Park in Ohio.  So maybe it will be the 10th before they can work on the rig.

coffee maker

This cartoon is for my coffee drinking buddies and for you other guys too, it is funny.

Not much to blog about.  We did go on a road trip and went through New York, Pennsylvania and are now in Ohio.  We did not having any exciting things happen,  which is great.  We did pass through a lot of grape growing country.  I was amazed at how much was grown in this part of the country.

The internet and phone service is not that great here.  The good thing is we are not staying that long.  But it is pretty country.

kayaking Lake Ontario

Today we got up and decided this was the perfect day to kayak Lake Ontario.  This is the final Great Lake, so now I have kayaked all five Great Lakes.  As you can see the water is calm, but there are some swells.  It was really great.  The point you see in the distance is were the lighthouse and our campground are located.

Great Lakes: Lake Ontario fun facts

map of the Great Lakes
The Great Lakes — Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario and Erie — make up the largest body of fresh water on Earth, accounting for one-fifth of the freshwater surface on the planet at 6 quadrillion gallons. The area of all the Great Lakes is 95,160 square miles.
Lake Ontario, the 14th largest lake in the world, is the smallest of the Great Lakes in surface area.

It ranks fourth among the Great Lakes in maximum depth, but its average depth is second only to Lake Superior.

Lake Ontario lies 325 ft  below Lake Erie, at the base of Niagara Falls.
Figures
LENGTH:  193 miles

BREADTH:  53 miles

AVERAGE DEPTH:  283 ft.

MAXIMUM DEPTH:  802 ft.

VOLUME:  393 cubic miles

WATER SURFACE AREA:  7,340 sq. miles

TOTAL DRAINAGE BASIN AREA:  24,720 sq. miles
DRAINAGE BASIN AREA BY STATE/PROVINCE:

    New York: 13,500 sq mi
    Ontario: 11,200 sq mi
    Pennsylvania: 100 sq mi
SHORELINE LENGTH (including islands):  712 miles

ELEVATION:  243 ft.

OUTLET:  St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean

RETENTION/REPLACEMENT TIME:  6 years

NAME:  Champlain first called it Lake St. Louis in 1632. On a Sanson map in 1656, it remained Lac de St. Louis. In 1660, Creuxius gave it the name Lacus Ontarius. Ontara in Iroquois means "lake," and Ontario, "beautiful lake."

There was a boat launch at this state park.  It was about a half mile down the road.  The launch was also located at a small river outlet.  It made it so easy to go into Lake Ontario.  But I really think if we had a beach at the camp site we could have launch from there because it was so calm today, but all we have are big rocks for a beach.

Rog is out in the lake, you can see the swells here too.  We only took one kayak out this time.  Not sure why.  Rog said that the seat on his was broke, but he could have gone with it or I could have taken his.  But I was out voted so we went out one at a time. It really is not as much fun without him.

All along the shore in the campground there are nothing but rocks like these.

This is the river that goes into Lake Ontario and where the boat launch is located.

Pretty flowers along my journey

This is a cormorant and in the bushes you can make out a Canadian goose.  They were hanging out together along the river bank

Erie Canal

After kayaking we headed into town to look for a hardware store. Rog's kayak seat was broken so he needed to get some hardware stuff to see if he could repair it.  He thinks he has it now, but would not take it out for a test run.  I really wanted to go out again and kayak to the lighthouse.  But I lost again.

On our way to town we drove over the Erie Canal.

fun facts about the Erie Canal
1. The first shovel of earth to begin construction of the Erie Canal was turned in Rome on July 4, 1817.
2. The first section of the canal opened in 1819 from Rome to Utica.
3. The entire length of the canal is 363 miles and opened in 1825, serving as the water gateway to the west, connecting New York City to the Great Lakes and providing a cost-efficient mode of transporting freight to western portions of the state and eventually the country.
4. The canal was a state-funded endeavor costing about $7 million. Federal government officials were unwilling to burden some of the task, but later when it proved a huge success the federal government tried to take it over.
5. When the canal first opened, Rome citizens were furious. The original path of the canal did not go through the heart of the city but instead bypassed it by about 1.5 miles. During the opening where many communities fired cannons, Rome threw barrels into the canal in protest.
